Volunteer Park Café is a dog friendly hotspot for great food and good conversation in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. Owner and chef Ericka Burk makes a mean matzoh ball soup that has one customer making regular visits along with his two dachshunds that are always given a bowl of their own to share. Pastry chef Heather Earnhardt delights canine connoisseurs with such tasty combinations as peanut butter and bacon dog treats, which have been given the stamp of approval by Ericka’s five year old golden retriever, Olive—also known as Big Stinker—and by Othello, her 15 year old pit bull/Labrador mix.
1 pound ground beef
1 carrot, peeled and finely grated
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix well. Form into small balls. In small batches, pan fry over medium heat. Cool. Serve over dry food.
